Baby otter rescued from Scotland river recovering well

Noah the otter
This cute baby otter is recovering well after being rescued from a river in Scotland.
A man spotted the animal on its own, calling out, in Kirtle Water, Dumfries and Galloway. He left the cub for 24 hours to make sure the otter's family wasn't nearby but his mother didn't return, so the man collected it and called the Scottish SCPA.
It's thought the cub was separated from his mother by a strong river current.

Centre manager Colin Seddon said: "He was very subdued and weak when he first came to us but he's now weaning onto solid food and is a lot brighter."
They plan to release him back into the wild after his first birthday.

Lucky the kitten

A three-week-old kitten who was dumped in a bin narrowly escaped being crushed by a recycling truck in Devon.
The female tortoiseshell, named Lucky, was emptied into the back of a waste truck. Its crusher was stopped by two bin men who heard the kitten's cries.
The men, who were completing their round in Plymouth, saw the kitten fall from the crusher's blades.
Lucky was unharmed and has been adopted by staff at Devon Contract Waste.
Donna Cook, from the company, said: "They were picking up recycling and when the truck up-ended, and as the crusher started pulling back the cardboard, they heard her screams.
"They stopped the crusher and out fell the kitten from its blades."
Lucky was taken to a local vet but was not injured in the incident.

Orion space capsule revealed by Nasa

Orion space capsule shell
The most high-tech space capsule ever built has been shown off by Nasa in the US state of Florida.
The Orion capsule will eventually be part of a spaceship. It's arrived at the Kennedy Space Centre ahead of its first mission in 2014.
The plan is to fly humans to asteroids and the Moon by 2025, and eventually to the planet Mars.
That's further into space than astronauts have ever been before.
Nasa's plan is to use Orion-style spacecraft as a replacement for the Space Shuttle fleet which ended operations in 2011.

First mission is to the moon

Once the capsule is built fully, it will first fly an unmanned mission in the direction of the Moon.
The mission will take it 3,600 miles from Earth.
Nasa will test the capsule to see if it copes with extreme temperatures and the pressure of coming back through the earth's atmosphere.
Astronaut Rex Walheim said: "It is a lot different than the shuttle. The shuttle was a little bit bigger on the inside. It's different technology too."
Space Shuttle on a boat in New YorkThe space shuttle programme started in 1981 and lasted 30 years.
At the moment the Orion capsule is just a 'skeleton' which will have wiring, computers and a heat shield added to it.
Then it will be put on top of a rocket for the first Orion test flight in 2014.
