The robot footballers hoping for a cup win

Meet the UK's robo-footie team who've been training hard for this year's RoboCup World Championships.

The robots were built by a team at the University of Hertfordshire, and put in a cracking performance last year by grabbing second place in Brazil.

Each robot is programmed with around 50,000 different lines of code to help them to know what to do.

The RoboCup is an annual football competition, which first started in 1997.

Around 500 teams from more than 45 countries will take part in this year's contest, which kicks off in China on 19 July.

A huge bug jumped on James Rodriguez at World Cup quarter-final

A bug in Brazil obviously knows a talented footballer when it sees one - after a giant beastly jumped on superstar James Rodriquez at the World Cup.

The insect latched onto the playmaker during the quarter-final and proved to be a lucky charm as Rodriguez tucked away his penalty.

In Brazil they call this bug Esperanza (hope). And it really was connected with the Colombians hope to pass the quarter finals with the penalty scored by the excellent player, James Rodriguez is.

The bug - which looks a bit like a large grasshopper - jumped on the Columbian after he scored a penalty during his team's quarter final against Brazil.

It was really big and disgusting!

2022 World Cup dates still undecided

The dates when the 2022 World Cup will be played will not be decided until after the 2014 World Cup, according to the world football governing body Fifa.

On 8th January the general secretary of Fifa told Radio France: "The dates for the World Cup will not be June-July."

He suggested it could take place between 15 November and 15 January.

But later Fifa bosses said no official decision will be made until later this year.

Why would they move the tournament?

Temperatures in Qatar where the World Cup will take place, can reach up to 50 degrees Celsius in the summer and would be dangerous for players and fans alike.

If the tournament is moved to the winter months, temperatures would be more like 25 degrees Celcius.

Sepp Blatter, Fifa president said two months ago that a firm decision on dates for the 2022 World Cup will be made in December 2014 .

Qatar organisers have indicated they would be happy to switch to a winter World Cup.

Ronaldo free-kick breaks boy's wrist at AFC Bournemouth

A young football fan whose wrist was broken by a Cristiano Ronaldo free-kick at Bournemouth has received a shirt signed by the player and his Real Madrid team-mates.

AFC Bournemouth took on the Spanish giants in a pre-season friendly at the Goldsands Stadium on Saturday.

The match attracted thousands of fans.

Among them was Charlie Silverwood, 11, who early in the match was hit by a Ronaldo free-kick and later had to undergo surgery on his wrist.

'No front teeth'

Charlie, from Christchurch, said: "It was Ronaldo's first free-kick of the game. It went straight for me so I blocked the ball with the palm of my left hand and the force, I suppose, reverberated up my arm and broke my wrist."

First aiders at the ground put his arm in a sling and told him to go to hospital.

Real Madrid is a once in a lifetime opportunity - seeing them play your local club - so I watched the rest of the match, mostly in pain considering I still had the sling, and afterwards I then went to hospital," he said.

Charlie has since had an operation to manipulate his wrist back into place and must spend the rest of the school holidays in plaster.

He said: "If I hadn't blocked it with the palm of my hand I would have no front teeth. It definitely had to be some speed otherwise it wouldn't have broken my wrist - 45 mph would be a safe guess I think."

Since the incident, he has been visited by Bournemouth legend Steven Fletcher, who brought him the signed Real Madrid shirt.

Charlie said the president of Real Madrid had also phoned to tell him a signed Ronaldo shirt was on the way.
